Summer
CyclingWorkouts Sat & Sun:
Group ride @ 10am. We will be
departing from Le Petit Outre (the corner of 4th & Myrtle) instead of
Bernice's. (It is just a block away
and visible from Bernice's so if you forget you will still see the
group) This ride can vary greatly w/
time, distance, and effort. The
bigger groups we have, the more likely smaller groups will form as we go
based on fitness and workout needs. Monday:
Recovery ride, 6pm @ Missoula Bike Works. This is a shorter, casual pace ride
geared to recovery and is a great ride for newbies or those looking for a
"conversation ride" Tuesday:
Hell Ride, 5:30 @ Wednesday:
Crit riding/ practice off broadway past the airport. More later on specific times and when
we'll be starting these. Thursday:
Team ride, 6pm @ Missoula Bike Works. Wear your orange! Working on hills, pacelines, or time
trialing. Earlier we'll do shorter
rides (until the daylight improves) and learn to ride as a team. Please, please try to make this workout
as often as you can if you plan to bike race this year. If this day doesn't work then we need to
change it because I'd like to see us ride as just a team more often. Friday: Rest, drink, sleep, or whatever you need
to do after a hard week! All are subject to change – I’ll keep it updated on the
listserv. Any questions, please
email the cycling director, Miles Key:
miles_key at hotmail.com Spring
Multi-Sport Workouts Monday: Ahhh. Monday.
Ease your way into the week with Masters swimming at the YMCA – run
by Ashlynn at 6pm. Tuesday: Didn’t get enough chlorine
last night? Come join the Masters
group at the Griz Pool on the UM campus – run by Ellen from 9-10:30 Starting
Tuesday, February 26th we are back at the track. Meet at the Dornblaser Track at 5:30 for
a coached workout designed by Olympian Courtney Babcock. All abilities welcome and
encouraged. It moves to 6:00 once
daylight savings time rolls around. Come
spring, join the cyclists for the Hell Ride – leaving Open Road Bikes at
6pm. More info from the cycling
folks…... Wednesday: Swimming, swimming and
more swimming. See Ashlynn and the
rest of your Masters compatriots at 6pm at the Y. Thursday: More Master’s swimming
at the Grizzly Pool, 9-10:30. As
we get closer to spring, count on your Thursday afternoons being filled by
bricks, time trials, and/or group rides.
Friday: What, do we need to hold your hand to get
you off the couch? If so, there is
more swimming at the Y. Saturday: As the weather starts
to get a little less awful, join hardy cyclists at noon at Bernice’s for a
2-3 hour ride. Speeds vary, so come
prepared for anything. Sunday: The day of rest becomes a day of very
active rest. Meet for a long run at
Chez McGovern – 9am at 99 Columbine in the middle Rattlesnake. It ranges from 6 to 20 miles depending on
who shows up and who’s training for what.
If some are going long, there is always a group that runs
shorter. All abilities and political
persuasions welcome. Call Dean for more details (728-6768). If
you really hurry, you can make both the long run and the 10:30 Masters
swimming at the Griz Pool. Don’t
forget, pretty much every gym, club and rec center in town offers spinning
classes. Get some of that. Come
spring, expect some changes, freezing cold open water swims, more outdoor
workouts and lots more spontaneous athletic throwdowns.
